Maidstone has just the one win so far this season in Football Federation Victoria’s Women’s State League 2 North-West competition.
The victory came against the bottom-of-the-ladder Yarra Jets in round three.
But the ranking of eighth-position does not tell the story of Maidstone’s competitiveness, going down by just one goal to relegated team Lara United in round one, drawing with top four side Melbourne University and keeping top team the high scoring Hoppers Crossing goalless in the second half.
Meanwhile, the Strikers will go into the match with some injury concerns.
After the team’s most physical contest came last week in a loss to the tough Hoppers Crossing, the players were feeling a little sore after the game.
The Strikers will also be missing right-back player Margaret Hutchins after she damaged the tissue in her knee in the first half.
The home team will be looking to curb the influence of Maidstone’s Jacquelene Ghirxi, who has scored all bar one of the team’s goals – two against Lara United and three against Yarra Jets.
After the Strikers pulled off a full 90 minutes of high-intensity soccer last weekend, their coach Adam Vranesic will be looking for a similar effort this week to get the job done and secure a third victory.
He believed the team was finally taking shape and said after the game last weekend, while the players would be working on a few minor things in the attacking area, he believed the future was bright.
