Anthony Kuel (24 points, six rebounds) and double-doubles from Zachery Dunmore (13 points, 12 rebounds) and Joshua Fiegert (12 points, 12 rebounds) played a key part in the Youth League Miners’ 29-point win in Big V competition, 93-64.
But coach Daniel Knaggs said every player produced a strong performance both offensively and defensively to get the job done.
“The whole week we’ve had the mentality of winning the moment,” he said. “And coming into the start of that game, each moment, each play, each defensive end and offensive end, we wanted to win the moment and that’s what we ended up doing.”
While the first half remained close with neither team executing well, the Youth League Miners built momentum in the second term and dug deep in the third to extend the lead.
“The third, essentially, is where we locked in as a whole group and really produced quite an effective offensive structure,” Knaggs said.
“Zac Dunmore really locked in with his offensive aggression, which we’ve been working on with him the last couple of weeks, and Anthony Kuel in the third quarter stood up in his offensive attack.”
Knaggs said he was pleased with the efforts of his players this season, despite a five win, 10 loss record.
“The start of the season we knew it was going to be a rebuild season,” he said. “Having all the guys on the roster really buy into that, a lot of them are loving the opportunities they are getting and it is setting them up for success when they go to SEABL (the South East Australian Basketball League).”
