May figures released on Friday show just 77.4 per cent of services arrived within six minutes of the scheduled time in Ballarat, only 0.5 per cent higher than V/Line’s rock bottom March result.
V/Line acting CEO Carol-Anne Nelson said vandalism of track cabling equipment, which only impacted services on May 23, “caused major disruptions to the morning peak, with flow on effects across the day”.
“However, we recognise the performance results are well below our expectations and we apologise to passengers for the disruptions,” Ms Nelson said.
Across the state’s V/Line corridors, on-time performance dropped sharply to 79.3 per cent, from a high of 86.2 per cent in April.
