Scott Young started the domestic altercation on February 8 after he became aware his partner of their three children was talking to someone on her mobile phone.

Young took her phone, threw it on the ground and told her he was going to kill her tonight.

Young’s partner, who fled and jumped a fence to a neighbour’s house, suffered bruising on the inside of her arm.

She supported him in the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Wednesday where an intervention order between the couple was varied.

He told police he did not intend to emotionally upset his partner and took hold of her arm to try and get her to sit down so they could talk.

Earlier on January 22, Young was a passenger in a car that police stopped in Ararat.

Police located the drug ice, a small cannabis bud, a bong and machete inside the vehicle.

The court was told Young was on a Community Corrections Order at the time of the offending but he had been receiving drug counselling since February.

He was sentenced to an 18-month CCO with supervision and conditions he complete a men’s behavioural program and undergo drug treatment.

Young pleaded guilty to charges including recklessly causing injury, making threats to kill, possessing ice and failing to answer bail.
