Garner was reported and red carded at the end of the third quarter against Sunbury at Alfredton.
The charge alleges he bit Sunbury’s Jack Landt.
Swans coach Shane Hutchinson said Garner denied the charge and would be pleading not guilty.
Despite being down to 17 players for the first half of the last quarter with the loss of Garner, Ballarat caused a major upset by defeating Sunbury.
The Swans led by 37 points at three quarter time and increased this margin by two points to hand Sunbury just its second loss of the season.
The defeats have been on the Lions’ only two outings in Ballarat for the year.
Sunbury coach Ben Jordan described the performance as another “ordinary” effort in which players had not been accountable.
Although the Lions were without several key players, Jordan said this was no excuse.
For Ballarat it was just its third win, and second on end.
THE AFL Goldfields match review panel might also be taking a look at an incident with left Melton’s Braedan Kight on the ground at the end of first quarter against Lake Wendouree at Wendouree on Saturday.
Kight was helped from the ground holding his face, going to the interchange bench while his teammates gathered in the quarter time huddle. Kight returned the field and played out the game, kicking three goals.
