Sophie Emota scored the Strikers’ only goal in the first 10 minutes of the Football Federation Victoria’s women’s state league two competition clash, before La Trobe University levelled the score to draw the game 1-1.
Strikers coach Adam Vranesic said while weather conditions were a factor, neither team had the advantage.
“There was wind going towards one goal that was pretty strong, but we had the wind in the first half and they had it the second,” he said.
The Strikers were hit with injuries before the game with Renee Boag (ankle), Ashley Blackburn (leg) and Rose Lewis (illness) unavailable.
“Alysha (Reisacher) is our attacker up front and she ended up playing back, so it was a completely different ball game,” Vranesic said.
“The only thing we could have done better is probably keep the ball. We gave it away a little bit too easily and at times we gave them too much space and too much time on the ball, we could have closed them down a bit quicker.”
But the team stood up late.
“In the last 10 minutes we were against a heavy wind and we just constantly attacked,” Vranesic said.
“So we took control of the game and finished off very strongly, so that’s a positive to take into next week.”
