BRETT Bennetts suits up for the 300th time for Ballarat City Brewers in the Geelong Baseball Association A grade competition tomorrow.Appropriately, the Brewers legend plays the landmark game against arch-foe Saints in a top-of-the-table clash at Prince of Wales Park in Ballarat."Rusty'' has just about done it all in 22 seasons with Ballarat — two premierships, life membership and team-of-the-century selection. It began for Bennetts as a 15-year-old in 1987. He has notched up 1250 plate appearances as a batter in the A grade team, getting on base 572 times and accumulating almost 340 safe hits for a career batting average of 0.311. He played a key role in the Brewers' 1990 and 2002 premierships.Bennetts has done much more for the club than these statistics indicate. His courage, dedication, leadership and grit were key factors in his induction as a life member in 2009 and selection in the team of the century in 2001.Bennetts served as joint club coach in 1999 and has fulfilled a number of executive and committee roles. He continues to contribute heavily to the club, on and off the field.During his journey as a Brewer, Bennetts has been supported by wife Michelle, and children Kya and Jonty.Even after 299 games and an estimated 600 training sessions, Bennetts is still matching it with the younger generation on the training track each Wednesday night.Ask Rusty how he feels about this achievement and you are guaranteed one simple answer — he'll feel much prouder when he has a 2010 premiership medal hanging around his neck.
