The futures rounds have teams field a minimum of 11 bottom-age (turning 16 or 17 this year) players and are allowed a 24th player – meaning most sides will have a 11-13 split. The idea behind it is to give AFL recruiters a chance to see club’s next wave of talent and to expose those youngsters to the TAC Cup standard.
The round won’t see a huge change for the Rebels, normally fielding 8-10 bottom-agers as it is. Coach Marc Greig expected a far better performance than when the two side’s met earlier in the year, the Stingrays 97-point winners.
