Rokewood-Corindhap bounced back after last week’s three-goal loss to Dunnstown to hold-off the Crows, 45 goals to 40.
It has been a work in progress for the Grasshoppers, coach Melinda Miller telling The Courier that when she first came to the club three years ago, the likes of traditionally-strong CHNL clubs Dunnstown and Beaufort were easily accounting for her side.
Now, with a core group of nine A graders that have played a lot of netball together over the past few years, it has finals in its sights.
“These teams used to flog us,” Miller said.
“We’ve done the hard yards, and I knew it would take years.
“It was a close game, good netball, but we never looked like we were going to lose.”
Miller expected her side, which now has five wins and five losses for the year, to be underestimated and said Saturday’s match was like a “mini grand final” for the up and coming group.
“We’ll be underestimated.
“Even if we can just make a final this year, (that) would be awesome, and if this team can stay together, we’ll be doing alright.”
In what was a well-rounded team display, wing defender Ashlea Bylsma stood out with her intercepting ability.
The former Ballarat Swan young gun was named best on court.
Rokewood-Corindhap faces Hepburn next week, a side it sits level with on points.
