Now their dedication and commitment have been celebrated with life membership.
In that time, both have been presidents of the club, Nunn (1976-77) and Vernon (1980-81), and conveners of the Ballarat Sportsperson of the Year awards.
Vernon’s involvement in athletics started in his school days at Pleasant Street Primary School and he became one of only two students to have set a record in every event of their athletic discipline.
He was selected in the 1950 and 1952 Commonwealth Games teams and the 1956 Olympic Games team.
Nunn was a member of the Ballarat Yacht Club until the late 1970s. From 1975 to 1980, he enjoyed success at state level.
He also took up central football umpiring in the 1950s and ‘60s, officiating finals in many regional leagues during this time.
