GOLF: Midlands swings its way to trophy win

MIDLANDS Golf Club shot to victory in the 39th edition of the Moreton Perpetual Trophy yesterday.The annual ladies match-play event, which operates under the aces system of scoring, saw the host club win with 27 aces, ahead of Ballarat (18) and Buninyong (11).The event was originally started by sisters Honor Wilson and Joan Wills, who decided they had gained so much from golf that they wanted to give something back to the sport.Eight clubs compete in the competition, which now features six players per team.Warrnambool hosted the inaugural event in 1972. Chalambar, in Ararat, is the home club for next year's tournament.RESULTSMidlands 27 aces, Ballarat 18, Buninyong 11, Portland 8.5, Chalambar 8, Warrnambool 7, Colac 3.5, Hamilton 3
