Women take focus in this year’s NAIDOC week, the theme of ‘Because of Her, We Can’ celebrating the essential role Indigenous women had, and have, at all levels of the community. Some events kicked off early, starting this week. However, from Sunday 8 July Ballarat will be host to a whole new range of events to celebrate the occasion.

BADAC Walk to Mullawullah’s Monument
Monday July 9, 10:30am -1:30pm
The event will start with a flag-raising and Acknowledgment of Country at Market Street, before a walk down to the Frank ‘Mullawullah’ Wilson Monument. Guests can then warm cold fingers with soup and sandwiches at ‘The Farm’ Ballarat Special School.

Queen Victoria Square will host a Welcome to Country and flag-raising ceremony, on Monday afternoon. Anybody is welcome to attend.
NAIDOC Afternoon Tea
Tuesday 10 July, 2pm
Ballarat Health Services is throwing an afternoon tea in celebration of NAIDOC week. Head to BHS Drummond St North Gardiner-Pittard Building.
BADAC Community Open-Day
Wednesday 11 July, 10am-2pm
Get down to Ballarat showgrounds on Wednesday for a free barbecue lunch, presentation of awards and entertainment for the whole family. Kids can enjoy free amusement rides or get up and close with animals at the petting zoo, while plenty of live entertainment keeps the bigger kids amused too. Plus, arts and crafts on sale.
