After a standout 2018 Indoor Cricket National Championships campaign, Polkinghorne collected the Monika Brogan Medal as the open women’s player of the series.
She was also named in the Australian representative side, which was picked from the carnival.
While there was personal success for the Ballarat girl, Polkinghorne’s Victorian side wasn’t able to claim the national title. That honour went to Queensland, which defeated South Australia in the final.
Fellow Ballarat player Jarrod Burns was unable to carry his Victorian team to victory in the open men’s decider.
Burns batted in the final pair as the Vics fell short against the ACT, losing 66-46.
In the Lord’s Taverners division, which is for players with a disability, Ballarat’s Theo Arnold represented the Big V. Queensland beat South Australia to win this competition.
Last week’s championships were held at Action Indoor Sports Toowoomba, which is the venue for the junior titles this week.
Local players are in Victorian sides, including Golden Point cricketers Kayla Stuchbree and Tat Selby and Brown Hill’s Tahlia Meier.
The junior championships run through until this weekend.
