IT’S chilly, dreary and one might say a good description for a Ballarat winter is grim, so now is as good a time as ever to Embrace The Bleak.
A smash hit on its debut last year, Ballarat Noir will make its return this Saturday night at The Lost Ones Basement Bar in Camp Street, this year for the first time as part of the Ballarat Winter Festival.
Bar manager Brodie Wightman said the event would embrace the spirit and spirits of countries with colder climates.
“Ballarat Noir is all about winter, it’s freezing, you just can’t escape it,” Ms Wightman said.
“But there’s a Swedish saying, `there’s no bad weather, only bad clothing’ so if you’re dressed appropriately, come in here, take off the coats, sit in front of the fire and try a different spirit that you may have not had before.
“We’ve got a range of different cocktails as well. There’s nothing you can do about the weather, you may as well come in and enjoy it.”
Ms Wightman said she hoped locals and tourists would make a special trip to Ballarat’s CBD for the night.
“This is our pitch for the winter festival, hopefully we’ll get a few people come down from Melbourne as well,” she said.
“It was massively popular last year, it was one of the first events we had after we opened and it was incredible, we had no idea how popular it was going to be.
“We’re doing our standard winter fare for dinner as we’ve decided to really focus on the spirits. The night is really about the cocktails and trialing the new spirits.”
While the event has a free entry, people wishing to come in for dinner and cocktails are advised to book ahead. Last year, the event was at capacity throughout the night.
Ballarat Noir is at The Lost Ones Basement Bar, 14 Camp Street on Saturday from 5-11pm. For more click here.
