The 35-year-old from Newcastle is far removed from the career highs when he won US PGA Tour titles in 2014 and 2015.
Having made only two cuts from 27 events to earn just $US24,650 ($A33,000) last season, Bowditch has missed all five cuts for zero earnings from very limited opportunities on the US tour this season.
But he is being applauded after taking to twitter with a self-deprecating offer to youngsters to caddy for him at this week's John Deere Classic in Illinois.
"Any local kids/college players in the Quad cities area that are interested in caddying in the tournament this week, this thread is for you," wrote Bowditch.
"The best response/reason gets the job. 2pm Tues start, finish Friday. 1% chance Sunday. Payment: all leftover gloves and balls are yours "
Bowditch got plenty of offers and messages of support in reply but 16-year-old Elias Francque got the gig.
"I visit my grandparents farm nearby. Ive played the course and loved it," Francque wrote.
"Two of my uncles work for John Deere. I'm a caddy at my local country club and on the golf team. I turn 17 on Friday and helping you make the cut would be a great birthday present! I love Australia."
Bowditch responded.
"This man has the heavy lifting for the week. Thank you to all that offered. Love reading the replies and DMs. Let's get it this week Elias!"
