UPDATE: The car that ploughed through a double brick wall in to St Andrews Hall on Dawson St was finally removed about 6.45pm – more than four hours after the accident occurred.
SES crews worked for more than three hours to secure the damaged wall and remove rubble before the car was able to be winched out on to a waiting tow truck.
Temporary fencing has been erected around the site and the car park of the Quest Ballarat closed.
A female driver had a lucky escape after her car crashed through a brick wall off Dawson St this afternoon.
The Ford Territory crashed through the red-brick wall of St Andrews Hall from the adjoining Quest Ballarat hotel.
An ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics attended the scene after being called to the accident about 2.20pm and assessed the driver, a woman in her 30s, who had escaped uninjured and did not require medical attention.
Police and CFA officers kept passersby some distance from the impact zone amid fears the brick wall could collapse.
SES have also been called to help secure the wall before the car can be removed.
Large cracks were visible in the brickwork above the car.
The hall, which regularly hosts book fairs and other events, is scheduled to host works during the Biennale of Australian Art during September, October and November.
