Burger Brothers in Wendouree have joined forces with Nicole Elliott as she attempts to get as many Ballarat businesses to stop using plastic in July.
Manager Andreas Litras said the popular eatery was looking to move away from plastic and was keen to get involved with the campaign.
“We’ve put in the paper straws, and it’’s really a lot like the old-school diners, we’ve got the red and white stripes,” he said.
“It really makes no difference to the customer, but if it can help the environment, then why not make the change.”
Ms Elliott said a host of restaurants and cafes throughout Ballarat were on board.
“It really has taken off,” she said. “And it’s not just straws, we’ve had the Creswick Market who have been encouraging everyone to bring reusable bags and containers.
“The 3D cafe at the observatory is offering a free drink if you collect a bucket of trash from the area.”
