Freight Bar and Restaurant has given plastic containers the flick in favour of an alternative made entirely of wheat fibre, which can be disposed of in the compost after use.
Freight assistant manager Kodah Wozny said the change was part of an overall effort to reduce the business’ environmental footprint.
“Restaurants and hospitality businesses have been known to have a high wastage,” Mr Wozny said.
Taegan Westin, a sales and marketing manager for stockists Berry Anderson, said the plastic bag ban from Australia’s two big supermarket chains had created a “buzz” around phasing out plastic.
“Now there is so much discussion about the plastic bags (businesses) want to start being proactive by reducing and even eliminating as much plastic as they can,” Ms Westin said.
