The nominated builder on the project, Macneil Group, is building the 1434 square metre supermarket and 76 car parks.
A plan was lodged in May 2017 but received multiple objections, meaning it took a number of months to reach council. These concerns have been mostly met by the developer.
In September 2017, Nathan Ryan represented the developer in an address to council.
This representation rouses speculation as to whether the store could be an IGA, as the Ryan family own a chain of IGA stores in Victoria.
This speculation has not been confirmed.
Creswick Ward councillor Don Henderson said the opening of a new supermarket would be great for the town.
“Creswick is growing exponentially and this supermarket, with off street parking, will add a whole new positive dimension to the town,” he said.
“It will also provide more employment opportunities.”
Cr Henderson said the addition of disabled parking close to the supermarket’s entrance was also a positive.
With many people travelling to Ballarat to do their grocery shopping, Cr Henderson said he hoped a bigger supermarket would mean these people would start to shop in town.
The supermarket is expected to open by the end of the year.
