Around 40 volunteers from the Daylesford Spa Country Railway have spent 10 weeks building a stop within strolling distance of the Passing Clouds Winery in Musk.
Spa Country Railway President Stuart Smithwick said the concept was the only one of its kind in Australia, and represented a “fantastic effort” from volunteers who keep the railway running.
“It’s a perfect partnership where two businesses – one entirely volunteer led – can benefit from each other,” Mr Smithwick said.
The new platform was officially opened on Thursday by Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas, following a $30,000 state government grant.
“The tourist offerings of Daylesford and the surrounding region just keep getting better,” said Ms Thomas, in a statement.
“Now, visitors can enjoy a fun and scenic trip from town to nearby winery, Passing Clouds, to sample the very best local produce.”
The Wine Growth Fund, which partly funded the new platform and tasting room expansion, provides funds for innovative growers.
