The 28-year-old was involved in a nasty on-court brawl during a World Cup qualifier between Australia and the Philippines earlier this month.
A total of 13 players and two coaches were suspended on Thursday following an investigation.
Sobey was also a victim of the incident.
Jio Jalalon, the Philippines player/official who punched the Aussie, received a five-match suspension.
However the father of a Philippines player who struck Sobey with a chair avoided sanction.
Several of Sobey’s teammates were not as lucky.
Daniel Kickert (five games), Thon Maker (three games) and Chris Goulding (one game) copped suspension from FIBA matches.
Basketball Australia was fined $135,000 and the match referees suspended for 12 months.
