The AFL Goldfields independent tribunal found each guilty of misconduct after they became engaged in an altercation with each other during a match against Ballarat at Melton Recreation Reserve.
The player was suspended for two matches, with another two-match ban suspended until the end of next season.
The coach was suspended for four matches, with another four-match ban suspended until the end of next season.
BFL operations manager Shane Anwyl said Melton South Football Netball Club would also be required to engage an AFL Goldfields football development manager to set up and run sessions on conflict resolution with a focus on how to behave when conflict arises, how to address the issues in a proactive manner and how to report conflict to the BFL and AFL Goldfields.
The club will have to run a session with all members on the BFL’s codes of conduct, the expectations around behaviour and how to deal with breaches.
Melton South sacked the coach from his role immediately after the incident.
The player involved has already served a separate two-match suspension after he was reported and red carded in the match after an in-play incident.
The altercation with the coach occurred after the player was reported.
