Rochester SES rescued the female foxy at Koyuga – about 30 kilometres north-east of Rochester, Victoria.

Owners of the dog believe she followed a fox into the pipe but became stuck on Sunday.

Rochester SES volunteer Judith Gledhill said the owners had tried everything they could to get the dog out of the four-metre long pipe before calling the SES.

The disused drainage pipe was accessible from both ends for the SES crew.

“The owners dug around pipe to reach as far as they could but were basically running out of options and concerned for the dog’s welfare,” Ms Gledhill said.

“The dog had been there for about 24 hours. (SES) Volunteer Ash Cunnington used a long dog pole with a loop to reach in and help retrieve it.

“It took us longer to turn the truck around and back it up to the pipe than it did to rescue (the foxy).

“She was quite happy when we got her out and the owners were very relieved.”

Ms Gledhill said it was the third dog rescue the unit had completed in eight years.

“The last one was stuck in an air-conditioning duct under a house and before that one was stuck under a water tank,” she said.
