They want to make it count for Child and Family Services programs in Ballarat.
The Ballarat radiology cross-department team is channelling its combined efforts, whatever distance they travel, from Sunday’s Run Melbourne towards the not-for-profit organisation.
Lake Imaging medical imaging technologist Alistair Cardew said it was important to the team to feel their running mission was directly helping the Ballarat community.
“A lot of the people we’re supporting and helping are also people who visit CAFS or who might need CAFS,” Mr Cardew said. “In a way, we like to feel we’re continuing to help improve their lives outside our care...The run is great team building for us, but it’s also about promoting compassion.
“We are all parents, siblings, wives and husbands and understand connections are important.”
CAFS supports more than 6,500 disadvantaged individuals and families each year across the Ballarat region.
Mr Cardew said the Run Melbourne effort allows Lake Imaging to build on the support it already offered CAFS with hampers and donations at Christmas, projects that receive strong backing from their clients.
Lake Imaging Ballarat will sport 11 runners participating across three distances in Run Melbourne – the five-kilometre, 10km or half-marathon – which take in the city’s sporting landmarks and for those running longer, Royal Botanic Gardens and Docklands precinct.
CAFS Ballarat community engagement coordinator Seb Claassen said the kind gesture represented great community spirit and togetherness.
“We feel really lucky that the Lake Imaging team have chosen to raise funds for CAFS. As a not-for-profit charity we need all the assistance we can get,” Mr Claassen said.
“It’s a huge effort to tackle the Run Melbourne event, and especially with so many employees from Lake Imaging getting involved, it’s amazing.”
Lake Imaging has raised almost $500 ahead of race day on Sunday.
