PLANS to prevent repeated flooding from occurring in Delacombe are now expected to be finalised within Ballarat City Council by the end of next week, one week later than the date that was originally earmarked.Council last week indicated drawing specifications would be prepared by yesterday, but that date has now been pushed back by at least one week.Director growth and development Eric Braslis said the plans would now be finalised next week, at which point funding could be sought.“After that we will be in a position to get prices and appoint a contractor to carry out the works,” Mr Braslis said.“We are aiming to have works under way within a couple of weeks and we will continue to liaise with affected residents.” Flooding is considered to start at the northern end of Doug Dean Reserve, where water flows down through the southern end of Delacombe.Lumen Christi Primary School, which sits next to Doug Dean Reserve, was flooded twice early this year.Sandbags remained at the school until earlier in the week in anticipation of further floods, which principal Lee Schoolz said was a very real possibility unless action was taken by the council.Water has previously spilled across Whitelaw Avenue and flooded the school at waiste height at some points.Mr Schoolz said there had appeared to be more focus placed on repairing the flood situation in Banyule Drive, which is situated about 500 metres south of the primary school, rather than fixing the northern end of Doug Dean Reserve. He said he hoped to see plans to carry out works near his school to prevent flooding.“Obviously they need to look at people’s houses and take care of them but we hope they look after us as well,” he said.
