A driver has been lucky to escape injury after walking away from a fiery crash on the Western Freeway near Bacchus Marsh last night.

The crash occurred about 9pm after the man reportedly swerved to miss an animal, crashing into a roadside barrier on the Melbourne-band lanes.
His car caught fire not long afterwards, although he was already out of the vehicle.
The man, aged in his 40s, managed to escape and was assessed at the scene by paramedics.
He did not require hospital treatment.
The freeway was closed while firefighters worked to control the blaze.
Six units from Bacchus Marsh, Myrniong and Melton attended the incident, taking about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control.
