Smith and teammate Kieran Collins were not seriously injured, but were taken to hospital after the Friday morning incident as a precautionary measure.
They were travelling to the Bulldogs’ last training session before the round 18 fixture at Mars Stadium.
Roarke’s setback means the Bulldogs have 14 players unavailable for selection.
While it has been a testing season for the Western Bulldogs, which are out of finals contention, tall defender Zaine Cordy is confident they can make an impact before the end of the year – including disrupting Port Adelaide’s final plans.
He believes the the Bulldogs can finish strongly, starting with a win in Ballarat, and take some impetus into the pre-season.
Cordy told The Courier they were looking to claim some scalps and create some chaos.
He said it was all about producing a four-quarter effort as more games were put into first and second-year players.
Cordy believes not having the pressure of trying to make finals might free up the Bulldogs to go at Port Adelaide without too much weight on their shoulders.
The Bulldogs will have a relatively relaxed lead into the Sunday’s match.
Cordy said players would car pool to travel to Ballarat on Saturday, settle into their accommodation and have dinner together, and then make their way to the ground on Sunday.
He said with players now familiar with playing in Ballarat everything fell into place without any fuss.
Final selected sides were released on Friday afternoon with Port Adelaide dumping Sam Gray from the line-up.
Gray has kicked just one goal from his last three matches and is named as an emergency.
Sunday’s game is scheduled to begin at 3.20pm.
