The BWCC met last week to finalise the board.
Jenna Fowlie has been announced as president while Jeremey Byrne will assist as vice president, Maddie Milton will be the club’s secretary, Gabrielle Hayes is treasurer while rounding out the committee is Greg Wakeling, who has played a major role in the club’s formation, and Michael Flynn, who is in advisory role.
The club will play in the Women’s Community Club Cricket with the division still to be decided, but it looks likely to be in the north-west division.
The season will begin in the first week of October.
Fowlie said she was excited to join the board and have such a role to play. The passionate cricketer put her hand up for the top job to ensure she could play a strong role in growing the women’s game in Ballarat.
“I was happy to put my hand up, because I wanted to make sure things were going in the direction that Greg Wakeling and I planned. If I’m on the committee at least I can have some form of influence as to where things go,” Fowlie said.
Fowlie said the club’s focus was now on recruiting players and she encouraged all budding cricketers to get involved.
“The key thing at the moment is seeing who is interested and what they can commit to.”
Fowlie has been playing cricket since she was 12, beginning in Melbourne while more recently playing for Napoleons-Sebastopol.
She is no stranger to what it takes to run a cricket club, her father being president of a cricket club for a number of years. While she has a background in research into female sports participation.
The club is also deciding on a nickname and mascot, anyone with a suggestion can do so on the club’s survey: www.surveymonkey.com/r/BWCCNameComp
