That’s because the show is partly filmed on the historic Denbigh homestead in Cobbitty, near Camden, southwest of Sydney
Star of the show Rodger Corser, who plays doctor Hugh Knight, said he felt privileged to work on the “amazing property” for the third time.
“It really is one of the stars of the show,” he said. “We are lucky enough to film in a couple of great rural locations including here and in Mudgee.
“The homestead is a real star, and the front yard, the dam and barn brewery are major sets on the show – I don’t know what we would do without them.”
The show follows the high-flying heart surgeon as he is forced to work for a year as a country GP in his hometown of Whyhope as punishment from the Medical Tribunal.
Season three will see Hugh’s probation lifted which leaves him free to return to the big smoke. But when tragedy strikes the Knight family, the doctor finds it harder than ever to leave the family farm.
Joining the cast this season are Vince Colosimo (Underbelly, Schapelle), who will play a long-lost relative and TV Week Logie Award winning Miranda Tapsell (Love Child, The Sapphires) who plays an old school friend of the Knight brothers.
Corser said the writers had done a great job of finding a storyline that kept Hugh in town without changing his core character.
The Gold Logie nominee said he was proud the show picked up five nominations in the TV Week Logies in July.
“People have fallen in love with the characters and Whyhope and it is great that they tune in for an hour every week to go on this journey with us,” Corser said.
Chloe Bayliss – who plays Hayley, the devoutly religious, sweet and outspoken wife of Ajax (played by Matt Castley) – said she loved being out in the country.
“For me it is freeing when I get to act in the country,” she said. “I love being out in the nature and fresh air because it makes me relaxed.”
The actress said her character went through a “rollercoaster of emotions” this series and she was excited for viewers to see Hayley’s growth.
“I love playing Hayley because she is the opposite of me,” Bayliss said. “I enjoy exploring and finding parts of Hayley in me.”
Ryan Johnson, whose character Matt Knight is married to Charlie (played by Nicole da Silva), said the Denbigh property was “made for the show”.
“It is a beautiful place to work,” he said. “I can’t complain.”
Johnson said he frequented R Coffee Co and Back Galley in Camden.
“Camden has a great country village feel where everyone knows everyone,” he said.
“I also enjoyed having a steak and a glass of red around the fireplace at Country Valley Inn.”
Johnson said he was looking forward to audiences seeing Matt’s relationship with his brothers Hugh and Ajax explored further in season three.
The actor said he drew on his relationship with his own brother when acting alongside Corser.
“The relationship between Matt and Hugh is written in an honest way and there is a vulnerability to both of them,” he said.
Johnson said Matt and Charlie would have to work through “deep emotions” this season.
All the actors said they were excited to see season three premiere and felt “lucky” to be part of an Australian drama series that had a loyal fan base at home and abroad.
Season three returns to television screens on Channel 9 on Monday, August 6 at 8.45pm.
