The Lions were emphatic 93-point winners over Ballarat as the AFL Goldfields competition marked 100 years since Victoria’s first recorded women’s football game.
Redan locked away top spot on the ladder with the success, which was set up by an eight-goal haul from Lori Stepnell. The forward won Redan’s best on ground medal, with Ellen Werts claiming that honour for the Swans.
Sunday’s clash was played at City Oval, which saw Redan, Ballarat and East Point clubs mark the centenary with matches across junior and senior divisions.
The game back in 1918 was held between textile workers from Ballarat’s Lucas Factory and Melbourne’s Commonwealth Clothing Factory at Eastern Oval to raise funds for the Arch of Victory and Avenue of Honour.
East Point finished percentage behind Redan in second spot on the ladder and will take on Carisbrook in a semi-final next Sunday. With the Lions gaining the week off, the other final will be played between Gisborne and Bacchus Marsh.
