Affected customers have received a text from the power provider saying it hopes to have power restored by 4.30pm.
There are 177 homes around the Howitt Street area without power in Ballarat North, 26 in Soldiers Hill and six in Black Hill.
Wildlife on wires is believed to have caused the outage.
