The monthly event titled Comedy Ballarat is set to create an opportunity for all comedians, from first timers to established comics, to practice new material.
Comedy Ballarat organiser Crystal-Rae Wright said there had been a lack of opportunities for start up comics in Ballarat since the closure of the Babushka Bar, which had hosted the event Locally Grown Funnies.
“While there’s so many opportunities available to up and coming comedians on the Melbourne scene, there was a gap in the market for performers on this platform in Ballarat,” Ms Wright said.
“Getting up on stage can be quite intimidating for people starting out. This will be a supportive and encouraging environment.”
Established comedians Scott Walker and Tim Young are also scheduled to perform at Main Bar at 8pm on Friday August 10.
