Smith, a gun wicket-keeper/batsman, will play with last season’s Ballarat Cricket Association runner-up in 2018-19.
He has made the move from Highton, which he skippered last campaign.
Mt Clear coach Matt Ward said Smith was a big recruit for the club, which lost to Golden Point in an exciting first grade grand final in March.
“We are thrilled to have him. He’s a great asset. It’s a good signing for us,” Ward told The Courier.
Smith is a past Victorian representative at the Australian Country Cricket Championships and has played for the Geelong association in multiple Melbourne Country Week campaigns. Last season, he played in the Geelong side that beat Ballarat in the opening round of the competition.
Mt Clear will be captained by Darcy Thomson during the upcoming season, which is scheduled to commence on October 6.
The Mounties will take on Darley in the first of five-straight one-day matches to start the year.
Season 2018-19 will see the entry of Buninyong into first grade competition. The Bunnies are booked to take on Napoleons-Sebastopol in the opening round of their campaign.
