Rowing Victoria has scheduled a schools regatta for Saturday, November 3.
Regattas traditionally begin early in the new year in Ballarat.
Lake Wendouree was last a venue for a regatta before the end of the year in 2014 when the World Rowing Masters took to the water in October.
The school event's return to Ballarat means the city will again host six regattas on the Rowing Victoria season calendar.
It replaces the state championships, which return to Nagambie as part of a set rotation.
The Ballarat Associated Schools Head of the Lake retains a Sunday timeslot in late February.
The marquee event on February 24 will again be the lead-up event to the state titles on March 2-3 - ideal timing for Ballarat schools chasing state championships.
Ballarat calendar:
Saturday, November 3: Rowing Victoria schools Ballarat (Ballarat Rowing Association)
Saturday, January 19: Ballarat Rowing Association regatta
Saturday-Sunday, February 2-3: Wendouree Ballarat Rowing Club regatta
Saturday, February 16: Head of Schoolboys (Rowing Victoria)
Sunday, February 24: Ballarat Associated School Head of the Lake
Saturday, April 27: Ballarat Rowing Association masters regatta
