The 2018 contest attracted Melbourne’s best bands as well as a host of locals including the Creswick Youth Brass Band, Creswick Brass Band, Ballarat Memorial Concert Band and Ararat City Band.
Twenty three concert and brass bands competed for a title.
“All bands performed either three or four pieces of work ranging from a march and a hymn to a concert item or major work,” Victorian Band Leagues president Kevin Cameron said.
“The competition in Ballarat was tough given we assembled the best from right around the state.”
It became a story of success for the Ararat City Band who won the C Grade competition.
The Ballarat Memorial Concert Band won the open C grade category.
Creswick Youth Brass placed second in the junior C grade category.
It was the first year Victoria’s premier band competition was held at Federation University’s Founders Theatre due to the temporary closure of Her Majesty’s Theatre for conservation and repair works.
The Victorian Band Championships is a joint initiative of the Royal South Street Eisteddfod and Victorian Bands League, which was founded in Ballarat 87 years ago.
