Club members and interested people voted on what the club’s nickname should be, with 36 suggestions being put forward, they were cut to a final three and voted on.
The only other option to rival the eventual poll winner was the Blizzards.
Following the news, the Ballarat Bolts’ logo has been put together and uniforms are in production.
Ballarat Women’s Cricket Club has 14 committed players, which committee member Greg Wakeling said was outstanding and had exceeded the board’s expectation to this stage of its development.
The most positive news was that players were “coming out of the woodwork”, having initially earmarked a few local players that the club could recruit for its inaugural season, the Bolts have been stoked by the amount of completely new players that have put their hand up to play.
“It’s all happening, it’s all falling into place,” Wakeling said.
“It’s happening a lot better than we anticipated.”
The club will play in the Women’s Community Club Cricket with the division still to be decided, but it looks likely to be in the north-west division.
The one-day competition sees teams play 12 matches across 14 rounds, with seven rounds either side of Christmas.
The season will begin in the first week of October.
Training times and venues for the team will be decided in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Ballarat has secured the hosting rights to the national under-18 girls championships in January.
The event will bring the country’s best young female cricketers to the region.
