James, who took the Roos to the minor premiership, was named the Central Highlands Football League’s standout coach at Wednesday night’s presentation evening.
The league’s team of the year was also revealed, with Learmonth onballer Brenton Powell named skipper and Newlyn star Myles Sewell vice-captain.
Geoff Taylor Medal winner Joel Mahar found a place on the bench, while joint leading goal-kicker Isaac Baker was named at full forward. Baker finished level on goals with Beaufort’s Jack Duke, who missed a place in the side.
