Ballarat police on the scene said a car and bus had collided, with the male driver of the car absconding after impact near the corner of Macarthur Street.
Doveton Street was closed from Macarthur Street to Brougham Street.
Police confirmed to The Courier that the bus driver was the only occupant of the public bus, which is owned by CDC Victoria. Ballarat CFA were also on the scene.
A spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria confirmed they were called to the scene at 2.51pm, and transported a woman – believed to be the bus driver – to Ballarat Base Hospital in a stable condition.
Chippy Rivera, who saw the collision, said the GT Mustang tried to do a “fishtail” around the roundabout at the corner of Doveton and Macarthur streets, then lost control of the drift, and hit the bus.
Police said the investigation was ongoing.
