Ballarat High School students might feel the cold a little more in the coming days after taking part in the World’s Greatest Shave to help beat blood cancers.

Students took the chop for charity, including year 12s Emily Buckland and Keaghan Wray who are now sporting close crops after losing their long hair.
Emily has been waiting for the day since year seven when she first saw shave participants at school, and donated her long hair to be made in to wigs for cancer patients.
“I’ve always been really attached to my hair and it’s been a big part of my confidence, but there’s a lot of people who lose their confidence when they lose their hair going through chemo so to give someone back their confidence is really neat,” she said.
School vice captain Keaghan Wray said his new hairdo felt “really weird” but was worthwhile, with at least $4500 raised – well above their original goal of $2500.
For those not so brave, coloured hair spray for a donation was a popular option, and leg waxing for the boys also raised cash with the biggest splurge on the chance to wax the legs of vice principal Ian Van Schie.
“It’s great that everyone gets involved,” Keaghan said.
