A woman in her 20s is being transported by road ambulance to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with a head injury, according to an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson. 

She remains in a stable condition.  

A man who was also winched out after falling this afternoon suffered no injuries. It is understood he may have fallen in an attempt to rescue the woman.

Both were rescued just after 5pm.

Ambulance Victoria received initial reports of the falls just before 3pm.

A paramedic assessed both at the scene before the winch rescue. 

EARLIER 4.15pm MULTIPLE emergency services are on the scene after reports that two people have fallen at Werribee Gorge this afternoon.

A woman in her 20s is believed to have suffered a head injury in the fall which was first reported at 2.54pm.

A second person, believed to have been a man is also being treated at Falcon’s Lookout. It is understood he may have fallen in an attempt to rescue the woman.

The rugged amphitheatre of rock which can be seen from the Western Freeway consists of conglomerate sandstone and has a reputation among climbers as a dangerous cliff.

The high-angle rescue unit is currently being used in the rescue operation while the ambulance chopper is also on the scene.
