But it wasn’t just the traditional kites on display, with a demonstration of Extreme Kite Buggying taking flyers’ breath away.
The Dean Kite Festival featured plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained including kite flying demonstrations and kite making activities.
Dean Recreation Reserve committee secretary Jon Rofe said the event started in 2013 and had grown each year, with more than 150 people flocking to Dean Recreation Reserve for the Father’s Day event.
“The wind is fairly light, but there’s still enough around for the kids to have some fun,” Mr Rofe said.
“We’ve got some kite enthusiasts who have some big kites flying.
“With all the kites in the air, it’s just colour and great to see the young kids running around flying their kites.”
Mr Rofe said the Hepburn Shire was a huge help in making the day a success and money raised from a raffle would go towards supporting Ballarat Soup Bus.
