The action kicked off with the AFL Goldfields Under-15 Youth Girls grand final as Redan overcame a half-time deficit to run over the top of Lake Wendouree by 10 points in an impressive second half.
The Lions’ Maya Quick led the goal scoring with two, while teammate Millie Lang also contributed a major.
Amiilea Ross was the Lakers’ sole goal kicker.
But Lake Wendouree did experience success in the Ballarat Under-18 Youth Girls grand final with a dominant fourth term the key factor in a come-from-behind victory over Ballarat.
Lakers coach Dean Welsh described his team’s win as a “sensational effort”.
“The pressure was there all day and that’s three or four times there has only been a kick in it,” he said.
Gisborne Blue pulled off an incredible upset victory in the Riddell Under-18 Youth Girls grand final, defeating the undefeated to get hold of the premiership cup.
Sunbury Kangaroos dominated for three quarters, but Gisborne Blue took the lead for the first time in the final term and did not look back.
North Ballarat had one of the most convincing victories on grand final day with a flying start over Redan propelling the undefeated team to a Ballarat Under-13 Junior Girls premiership.
While most of its scoring opportunities came in the first quarter, North Ballarat was able to hold Redan goalless for the entire game.
North Ballarat coach Travis Polkinghorne said Redan had pushed his side in the 15-point victory.
“We had a slow start to the year, we didn’t have a full team, but a few of the girls got on board and they’ve done a fantastic job,” he said.
“The really pleasing thing is they are a great group of girls. They all support each other and help each other out and a pleasure to coach.”
Meanwhile, in the Riddell Under-13 Junior Girls grand final, Gisborne White defeated first-placed Bacchus Marsh in a huge upset to claim the premiership.
