The college has 16 dancers, 20 musicians, an ensemble dancer and trainee stage manager in their spectacular crew, who have been rehearsing for months ahead of two massive performances involving more than 3000 government school students in Melbourne on September 15.
Mount Clear musicians form almost a third of the 64 piece orchestra and Japanese exchange student Sayaka Miyajima is one of 20 ensemble dancers.
The opportunity to take part in the VSSS was one of the reasons Sayaka decided to come to Mount Clear. With dreams of becoming a professional dancer, she said there was nothing similar in Japan.
“It’s really good to meet friends, get experience and improve my English,” she said.
Trainee stage manager Mikaela Howard-Bush will help move the thousands of students around backstage before and during the shows.
She has been to about six sessions at Melbourne Arena to learn the layout, meet the crew and understand what she will do during rehearsals and shows.
Mount Clear principal Lynita Taylor said the school had been involved in every Spectacular for the past 20 years.
“It shows them what opportunities are there if they are brave enough to put up their hand and try something,” said principal Lynita Taylor.
