Like all of his teammates that will take on Beaufort this Saturday, Bomitali is yet to lift the Central Highlands Football League senior premiership cup.

He’s been awfully close, but fallen short on every occasion. Bomitali lost senior grand finals in 2012 and 2013 under coach Joe Gilbert before missing out again under current leader Jarrod Morgan in 2016.

This year, according to Bomitali, feels different.

“It’s probably just more the build-up to it. Just being young and being in those (earlier grand finals), you really over-analyse everything,” he said.

“This year, I’m just enjoying it and it is what it is. We back ourselves.”

The 27-year-old has a strong confidence about the current group’s ability to go all the way and land the club’s first senior flag since 2002.

“The team we have and the depth we have, running out you’ve definitely got that bit of confidence,” he said.

“In the other years, there’s always been one or two players that are probably just maybe a little bit injured, but this year we’ve got really no excuses.”

Bomitali said he didn’t feel a sense of desperation to finally break through and win a grand final, but described it more as a feeling of wanting to get some reward for all of the hard work.

“I don’t think words could describe it (the feeling of winning on Saturday),” he said.

“I just think it would be everything to a lot of people. Footy’s more than life itself – some people live for it. I don’t think you could describe it in a word.”

Bomitali, a former Mt Clear junior footballer, has enjoyed a strong 2018 campaign that included his first appearance in the CHFL senior interleague side.

The midfielder, who often takes on a defensive role, has played all 18 senior games this year. He has kicked six goals.
