MELTON SWEEP PAST EAST POINT INTO GRAND FINAL
Melton is the first throught to the Ballarat Football League grand final.
The Bloods upset East Point by 19 points in a bone-jarring second semi-final at the City Oval on Saturday.
Final scores: Melton 12.11 (83) to 9.10 (64)
Melton broke the deadlock in a goal-for-goal battle with two goals in three minutes in time-on.
This gave the Bloods a 20-point lead – a margin which East Point never really threatened.
There was a momentary glimpse of hope when East Poinbt kicked two goal in two minutes to trim the deficit to 14 points on 16 minutes.
That was the end of the Kangaroos’ charge though.
Matt Denham was sensational in a best-on-ground display for Melton, with the dimunitive almost untouchable.
Darren Haby and Braedan Kight menaced in attack, Jaycob Hickey was took quick for East and in defence Ryan Carter shut down the potent Joel Ottavi.
East Point now plays the winner of Sunday’s first semi-final between North Ballarat City and Darley at the City Oval.
Meelton last played in a grand final in 2005, when it won the premiership.
