It was a show of colour, culture and tradition at Cooinda Hall on Saturday night for the Ballarat Hindu Temple and Cultural Centre celebration of the Ganesh Chaturthi Festival.

More than 100 people attended the event to enjoy traditional dances, food, speeches and a raffle.
Ballarat Hindu Temple and Cultural Centre president Raja Dwarakacharla said funds raised from the celebration would help the group achieve their goal to build a Hindu cultural centre and temple in Ballarat.

“At the moment we don’t have a permanent place. We hire a few different community centres,” he said.

The cultural centre and temple would be open to all people in Ballarat, with plans to offer Indian language, yoga and dance classes.
Mr Dwarakacharla said the hoped to raise $80,000 by the end of the financial year to secure land.
More fundraising events are planned, including a yoga training class will be held on September 22 and 23.
