Ballarat’s federal MP Catherine King had the official honour of hitting the first ball at the Ballarat Alexandra Croquet Club to open the season for the five clubs that form the association.
The B&DCA is one of nine Victorian Regional Districts with Ballarat Alexandra, Ballarat Western, Alexandra Ararat, Beaufort and Lismore Croquet Clubs falling under its banner in its centenary year celebrated in November.
Special efforts are being made this season to promote croquet as a sport providing people of all ages with a socially engaging and competitive activity.
The association says the sport is an excellent way of developing game-specific tactical and motor skills, along with physical exercise.
Members of the district have competed around the state, and even nationally and internationally.
