FairDinkum Fish and Chips was gutted by a fire in July of last year.
This came on the same day The Courier conducted a survey into who created the best fish and chips in Ballarat.
FairDinkum scraped to victory with 229 votes, closely followed by the Arch on Sturt Street with 226 votes and Pleasant Street Take Away on 212 votes.
After the fire, police confirmed the blaze that destroyed the popular shop was suspicious.
Demolition began on the back of the property on Tuesday morning.
The front facade, which remained undamaged after the blaze, was not pulled down during the demolition.

The property owner confirmed to The Courier that something is coming, but stated that it was in the council’s hands now.
The planning application to council has been lodged by the same firm that has put forward the new design of The North Star Hotel at 302 Lydiard Street North – formerly Seymours on Lydiard.
