Four football teams, six netball teams and Tynan Spenceley, who came away with a Toyota SR5 Hilux.
The Creswick footballer won the $55,000 ute as part of a CHFL raffle fundraiser to cover the costs of umpires’ fees for the entire season and help take the load off clubs.
The raffle was drawn between the CHFL reserves and senior grand finals, with a shocked Spenceley receiving the keys to the ute at the president’s afternoon tea.
Creswick Football Netball Club also came away with $5000 – the prize for the club that sold the winning ticket.
The initiative came from the CHFL board of management, which put the proposal to the clubs at the start of the season.
Every club agreed to participate in the raffle, which ran from round one until August, and had the chance to book the ute to be displayed at their ground during a home game during the course of the season.
There were $10,000 worth of tickets across the 18 clubs. With tickets sold at a price of $50.
Spenceley arrived at Ballarat Toyota on Tuesday to pick up the ute with Ballarat Football Umpires Association’s Roger Le Grand, CHFL president Eddy Comelli and Ballarat Toyota’s dealership owner Kim Dummett and general manager Daryl Crawley all in attendance
While it is the first season the league has run the initiative, CHFL manager Diane Ryan said, after the success of the raffle, she believed the board of management would put the proposal to clubs again next season.
