Organisers of the Ballarat celebration are putting out a call to volunteers to help out during the six-week exhibition and a special carrot for those willing to volunteer is free entry into the entire festival.
More than 150 volunteers are needed over the duration of the showcase which runs from September 21 to November 6 to guide visitors at installation points around the city from Lake Wendouree to the Eureka Centre.
Volunteer coordinator Tas Wansbrough said so far BOAA had 65 volunteers who had been working around the clock to put many of the art installations together in time for opening night.
“We’re doing pretty well with those people who are putting the work together and installing it around town, but of course we’d always love to have more,” Ms Wansbrough said. “But what we really need is volunteers to help out throughout the festival and help us make some art history.
“If you work six shifts throughout the festival, you will get free festival pass.
“We’re aiming to have more than 150 people on the ground working if we can.”
Ms Wansbrough said the `Volunteer Task Force’ was the “lifeblood of the BOAA Art festival”.
“They are the smiling faces that greet our visitors, they answer questions, assist artists, help install exhibitions but most of all they are the connectors,” she said.
“We need volunteers who love art, who want to meet new people, who are committed to the job at hand and who want part of Australian art history.”
She said it would be a great experience for students looking to expand their art knowledge, part-time workers or retirees who want to connect with people from all around the country.
BOAA will feature more than 150 living Australian artists and more than 65 solo exhibitions over a six week period.
Art Villages will be set up around Lake Wendouree, in the CBD and also at the Eureka Centre and will feature artists from every state and territory, as well as the “ninth state”, Ballarat.
